J.A. Ranch
Photograph Collection, 1938-1949 4 prints. Includes images of Hereford cattle in pen, and riders with horse remuda. The J.A. Ranch, located in Palo Duro, Texas, was founded by Col. Charles Goodnight and John Adair in 1877. Adair provided the capital, while Goodnight furnished the herd and managed the ranch. Following Adair's death in 1885, his widow, Cornelia Adair took over the ranching enterprise. Her son, James Ritchie, and his son, Montgomery, continued as owners and managers of the J.A. Ranch. In 1938, the ranch was approximately 415,000 acres with another 1,500 being cultivated.

Includes images of Hereford cattle in pasture, cattle with people, people with horses in trailer, building, person fishing, women, and ranch sign. The Jacksboro, Texas ranch was owned by Lewis and W. R. Johnson and in 1931, its herd was known as the world's largest herd of Double Standard Polled Herefords.

Photograph Collection, 1925-1975 13 prints. Includes images of Hereford cattle in pens, men with cattle in pens, and horses in pens. The ranch's brand was a circle that was placed in the middle of the left hip. Steers were shipped to Monford Feed Yards near Greeley, Colorado, and the Marfa, Texas, ranch was involved in trading bull calves to Mexico ranchers for steer calves.
