Committees and Councils
Benefits and Retirement Committee
Previously called the Retired Faculty and Staff Committee, the first efforts
to recognize retiring faculty and staff were made in 1970, with 500-600
persons attending the highly successful reception at the President’s home.
In 1971, a Faculty Council Committee on Retired Faculty and Staff was
created, and planned events to include more receptions, dinners, and clinics
on planning for retirement. In subsequent years, a Retiree’s Handbook was
produced for Tech employees.

box collection contains meeting minutes from the Council of Deans.
Discipline Committee
- U 61.1 Discipline Committee Records, 1942-1966: This
1 box collection contains minutes of meetings of the Discipline Committee
and cases investigated by the committee.
Faculty Advisory Committee
Created n 1941 under President Clifford B. Jones, the Faculty Advisory
Committee consisted of twelve members elected by the faculty. The Committee
was encouraged to make recommendations to the Administrative Council, but
had no administrative authority.

renovation, and maintenance of the buildings on the Texas Tech University

concerning Texas Tech’s committee on the preparations for the national
bicentennial celebrations. Dr. Jim Reese was chairman of the committee.
University Public Art Committee

U 343.1 University Public Art Committee Records, 1998-2002:
This 1 box collection consists of meeting agendas, minutes and handouts
for the committee, as well as some vitas and artist statements for well
known artists such as James Watkins, Sara Waters, Michael Hurd, Sonia
King, Sam Coronado, John Haines, and Sam Scott.
