Oral History Collection

The Oral History collection of the Southwest Collection is one of the largest in Texas. More than 4,500 tapes, containing 2,800 interviews have been abstracted and indexed.

These interviews trace the development of West Texas from settlement to the present time when the area has become a major agribusiness and medical region. Subjects covered include, oil, ranching, community and economic development:

Agriculture

Medicine

Education

Significance of water in a semi-arid area

Religion

Politics
