Texas Music Educators Association, Records, 1924-1969; 626 leaves Organized in 1924 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, and renamed in 1937 as the Texas Band and Orchestra Association, it became the Texas Music Educators Association in 1938. The association sponsors contests and promotes music education in the public schools, colleges and universities of Texas. The collection bulks (1924-1961) with two bound copies of Minutes and Proceedings of the Texas Music Educators Association, by Nelson G. Patrick, editor, 1924-1961. Also includes printed copies of the Texas Music Educators Association proposed constitution (1968), and a souvenir program of the Texas Music Educators Association Grand Concert (1969). Texas Tech: Music Department, Records, 1941-1984 and undated; 7 boxes, 2 wallets (7.2 linear feet) Collection contains program books of concerts and recital sponsored by the Texas Tech Music Department, material relating to the founding of Tau Beta Sigma, a national band sorority, and the Texas Technological College School Song on to 33 1/3 phonograph albums called Texas Tech on Parade, undated. Townsend, Charles R., Collection, 1884-1976; 1,871 leaves A professor of history, biographer, and collector, Townsend wrote a biography of Bob Wills. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1968, and has taught at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Includes correspondence, financial material, legal materials, printed material, and photographs concerning Townsend’s collections and bulks (1911-1970) with photographs and scrapbook material on Colorado. Of particular interest are southwestern fundamentalist religious tracts and camp songs. |
